Brenda Barrett Obituary

This Race Is Not Given To The Swift

Nor The Battle To The Strong.

But He That Endureth To The End,

SHALL BE SAVED.

On Thursday, June 13th, 2019 the death angel quietly and quickly escorted our Mother, Daughter, Sister and Friend Brenda Boyd Barrett to eternal rest.  Brenda was born September 1, 1949 to the late Apostle Nelson Boyd and St. Rose Boyd.

Brenda was educated in the Newport News Public School System and a graduate of Huntington High School class of 1966.  After further education and training, Brenda was employed by Woolworth Cleaners, Newport News School Transportation System and Stuart Garden Apartments.

Brenda loved to cook and loved even more cooking for others.  Everything she touched had a unique splendor.  Often you would find her with a good sandwich or a snack or two in her pocketbook to share with you.  Holidays, she was known as the Chitterling Lady, she could clean, clean, clean a chitterling and didn’t mind cleaning them for anyone, providing you got your request in on time.  Whenever you came to Brenda’s house it was nothing for her to whip up a quick meal, fit for a king.  She loved to cook and she cooked for so many.

Brenda was married in 2011 to the late Lamont Barrett.  She was the mother of two children Alicia and Kristofer, the loves of her life.  She spent countless hours making sure they were on point at all times, Brenda was not only her children’s mom she was that everybody’s Mom.  All her kids friends loved coming to Aunt Brenda’s or MA Brenda’s house because they knew they were going to have a good time and get something good to eat.

Brenda’s name was placed on the roll of the United House of Prayer For All People at an early age.  She attended Sunday school, Traveled with the Grace Emmanuel Band and was a Maid For Daddy McCollough.  At an early age Brenda joined the Jr. Female Ushers now known as the Bailey Female Ushers where she remained an active member until her passing.

Brenda is preceded in death by her farther, Apostle N.P.  Boyd, grandmother, Minnie Hamlin 2 aunts, Bertha Holland and Betty Coles, son-in-law Clint Griffin. Brenda  leaves to cherish fond memories, one son, Kristofer Boddie(Ashley) one daughter, Alicia Griffin, a devoted Mother, Rose Boyd, three brothers, Nelson P.
