Deacon Edith Mae Edwards Obituary


On Friday July 26, 2024 at 1:00pm Deacon Edith Mae Edwards, 64 departed this life at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia. She was born on May 1, 1960 in Sussex County, Va to the proud parents of Lewis and Dorothy G. Edwards. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined Union Baptist Church, Spring Grove, Va. She graduated from Surry County High School in June 1979.


She worked at Cowling Barbecue for 12 years as a cook. She loved fishing, traveling, puzzle books, playing Spades, Phase 10, Uno, eating catfish and pig feet,
talking on the phone and was a praying woman. Her favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys. She is preceded in death by her parents; Lewis & Dorothy G. Edwards, 3 brothers; Lewis Edwards Jr, John D. Edwards Sr., and Baby Boy Edwards, and 1sister Bertha Lee Edwards. She leaves to cherish her memories, 5 sisters; Barbara A.Edwards and Jeannette Cottomond of Waverly, Va. Teresa Chambliss(Ronnie Sr.) of Prince George, Va, Majorie Thorpe(Bernard) of Franklin, Va, and Dorothy M. Lee of ,Bladensburg Maryland. 2 brothers; James L. Edwards Sr. (Rosemary) of Wakefield, Va, and Larry D. Edwards of Waverly, Va. 1 aunt; Marlene Warren of Ivor, Va. 6 nieces; Rosetta Holland(Michael Sr.), Sharonette Zimmerman, Sherita Perry(Dwayne), Lakecia Edwards, Lashanda Edwards, and Lawanda Edwards and 6nephews; JermaineEdwards(Timila) James Edwards Jr., John D Edwards Jr.(Martha) Ronnie Chambliss Jr., Jerome Edwards and Elijah Edwards. A host of great nieces, nephews, and cousins. A devoted friend Arkelga Lucas. She had many devoted friends, just to name a few; Donna Holland(classmate of ‘79) Patricia Butts, Lady Kimberly Evans, Elsie Dennis, Marion Bouldin, Madge Hunt and Iola Chambliss.


A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Union Baptist Church 5962 Laurel Springs Rd. Spring Grove Va. Viewing and Visitation will be from 4-8:00PM Friday August 2, 2024 at the church.  Please keep the Edwards family in your thoughts and prayers.
