Deacon Robert Forbes husband of Mrs. Bernice Forbes departed this life March 9, 2021 at Sentara Hampton Careplex.
Viewing will be held 3-5 PM Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Morning Star Baptist Church 2717 N. Armistead Hampton, Va. A service celebrating Deacon Forbes will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 15, 2021 at Morning Star Baptist Church. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
Please keep the Forbes Family in your prayers.On March 09, 2021 at 12:57pm, God called Chief Master Sergeant Robert Forbes into eternal rest. He was born on October 18, 1932 to Lillian Thomas. He graduated from the C.M. Eppes High School in 1952. Robert Forbes attended Morgan State College, St Leo College and Hampton University, where he completed his Master’s Degree with highest honors. Robert Forbes is also known as Red, Bishop and Baby by his wife (Bernice Forbes) also LOVED Serving our GOD. He would always speak about the Goodness of JESUS. “All you need is JESUS and everything will be alright.” He was a faithful member of Morning Star Baptist Church from 1982 to present. He served as Chairman of the Deacon board for 15 years along with being a Deacon of the church for over 20+ years. During his years as a Deacon, he mentored as well as trained many other Deacon’s from various church’s. One of his favorite things to do within Morning Star is to Ring the Bell for Homegoing services.
In 1953, Robert Forbes joined the United States Air Force. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1982, by the order of the Secretary of the Air force and was honored for 28 ½ years of outstanding Service. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Robert Forbes, culminated along with a distinguished career of serving his country and reflected the highest credit upon retirement. Upon retiring from active duty, he continued to serve in his community over the next 15 years as a Substitute teacher and mentor within the Hampton City School System.
On March 30,1957 Robert Forbes married Bernice (Brewington) Forbes in Greenville North Carolina. They were married for 64 years and have five amazing children: Felecia F. Williams, Richmond, VA; Felix Forbes (Mae Ree Forbes) Stanley, NC; Fergus Forbes (Teresa Forbes) Hickory, NC; Robert Forbes JR, Richmond, VA; Allauna Smith (Rev. Vortorian Smith) Hampton, VA. Deacon Robert Forbes is survived by his two sisters: Patricia Jones, NJ and Ruthie Warren, NY. He also has two brothers: Jesse Carney, Danbury, CT and Curtis Williams, Greenville, NC. Robert Forbes was continuously blessed with having 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
As we sit back and reflect on this “Great Man of GOD” and all the outstanding accomplishments. We can all say “Well done thy good and faithful servant.” God has called you for another mission and when he calls, we all shall listen.
