Dr. Florence P. Blount- Davis departed this life on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Maryview Hospital. Born on October 13, 1945 in Surry, Virginia, Florence was the daughter of the late Olandis and Estelle Poole.
An advocate for education, she encouraged children to succeed in school and in life. She often led by example and was a 1963 graduate of Luther Porter Jackson High School in Dendron, Va. She later earned her Bachelors in Business Administration from Christopher Newport University, Masters from Hampton University, and Doctorate from the University of Sarasota. Florence began developing material to help children grow academically. In 2013, Florence wrote and published the book “From A to Z for You and Me” for children in pre-kindergarten to first grade.
Her love for children’s success carried over into her countless hours of volunteering with the Continental Societies, Incorporated Newport News – Hampton Chapter. As a proud and faithful member of over thirty years, Florence assisted with installing multiple chapters across the United States. Always a woman of action and involvement, Florence held many titles within the organization, including National President, Regional Director, Chapter President, Historian and Treasurer. She often spoke on a national stage, highlighting the accomplishments of the Continentals.
Florence leaves to cherish her memory her husband John Davis, brother Earnest Poole (Florine), five children – Tammy Smith (Gerald), Timothy Conley, Mark Conley (Stephanie), Sandra Powell (Quentin) and Shadrack Conley Jr, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A drive in service celebrating her life will be held 11:00A.M. Tuesday December 29, 2020 at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church 5738 Colonial Trail East, Surry Va. Interment will be in Mt Ray Cemetery, Surry. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
