Gilda L. Alston

Gilda L. Alston began her peaceful journey on Friday, September 18, 2020. Gilda was very devoted, in many ways, to her family, friends and several charities. Gilda loved history and made a career of teaching it at Spratley Middle School in Hampton, until her retirement in 2002. She was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and Alumna of Virginia State University. Although she grew up in the historic Aberdeen Gardens section of Hampton, she was a proud Huntington Viking and majorette. She was so much more to so many.

She was predeceased by her parents, Wilbert M. Alston, Sr. and Reverend Olivia Alston and her brother, Wilbert M. Alston Jr. (Junie). Gilda will be missed by her sister, Egertha Cartwright, brother-in-law, Everett Cartwright, nieces, Renee and Nikki and nephew, Timothy and their children, BJ, Teyah, Nyree, Timeka, Remisha and Mark. She will also be missed by those who were there for her, in countless loving ways; Brenda Poole, Richard Van Hall, Jr., Sherrod Jones, Brenda Carter, Kendra and Jacob Buckhanon. A graveside service will be held by Poole’s Funeral Home at Hampton Memorial Gardens on Thursday, September 24^th at 12:00 noon.
