Mr. Eric Burden of Alexandria, VA grew up in the Hampton/Newport News, VA area. On Tuesday, June 23, 2020 he went home to be with his heavenly Father.
Eric was a noted football player at Newport News High School while his college years were spent at Valley Forge and Penn State University. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He honorably served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam from September 1967 to April 1970. He also worked for many years as an Installer with Verizon. He was an avid bowler for many years and was a member of the first all African American team to win the Hoinke Classic one of the largest bowling tournaments in the world.
Eric was admired and well respected amongst his peers. He was so infectious and quick witted. Eric always had an opinion on any given subject and he didn’t mind letting you know what it was. He enjoyed talking and would often find himself in deep conversations with family and friends discussing everything from sports to current political affairs.
Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Burden, Sr. and Ivy Burden; his brothers, Isaac Burden, Jr. and Larry Burden. Surviving to cherish his memory are his sons Deven, Keven and Cameron Burden: his daughter, Joi Crittendon; and sister, Ivy Burden-Pope, Mary Thomas (Special Friend), along with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who all love and will miss him dearly.
Eric will be laid to rest in a private ceremony following CDC guidelines at Albert G Horton Jr Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. A viewing will held on Monday June 29th from 5-7PM at Berceuse Funeral and Cermation in Hampton, VA to allow family and friends to pay their respects.
