Gregory (Greg) Caldwell Flowers, 69 of Rocky Hill, CT passed away on October 11th, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. A loving father, brother, son and uncle, Greg was born July 11, 1955 in Dendron, Virginia to the late Alice and James Flowers Sr. He moved to Brooklyn, New York, at a young age, which is where he completed his schooling. Greg attended Erasmus Hall High School, where he was a member of the varsity football team. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the New York City College of Technology.
In 1997, Greg relocated to Rocky Hill, Connecticut, where he spent the remainder of his life. He frequently visited family in Virginia, where his trips were filled with laughter, celebrations, hunting and fishing.
Greg worked as an electrical engineer for more than 25 years. Later in life, he worked as a baker at Big Y Supermarket, but his true passion was teaching karate at Action Karate in Rocky Hill. A fourth-degree black belt, Greg was a dedicated instructor for over 15 years, profoundly influencing the lives of his students. He was also a talented and passionate musician who taught himself to play the piano, drums, guitar, harmonica, trumpet, and clarinet, inspired by his love for Stevie Wonder’s music.
Greg was preceded in death by his brothers, Desi and Robin Sr. He is survived by his son, Christopher, daughter-in-law, Anna, and his soon-to-be-born granddaughter. He also leaves behind his siblings, Edith (Alex), James Jr. (Moneesa), and Pamela; sisters-in-law, Diane (widow of Desi) and Grace (widow of Robin Sr.); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Greg will be remembered for his sense of humor, warm personality, commitment to teaching, and deep love for his family, friends and community.
Calling hours will be held Friday, October 18th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067. A memorial service will follow Friday, October 25, 2024, 11:00 AM at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 228 Virginia Ave, Wakefield, VA 23888. Reverend Joseph Wright will be officiating.
