Ethel Ernestine (Bussey) Thompson at the age of 101 passed away in her home in Newport News, Va. on June 8, 2020. Born, raised and educated in Edgefield SC, she continued and completed nursing college in Colombia, SC as a Registered Nurse. In pursuit of employment, Newport News became her residence in 1943.
Ethel Ernestine (Bussey), RN began her career at Buxton Hospital. Opportunity soon presented itself and Hampton Institute became the perfect job for over 27 years. While at H.I. she met and married Lewis Thompson. Out of this union were born five children, Rose Marie, Henry Lewis, Ernest Delano, Edriene Alma Louise, and Linda Darlene. They were a dynamic couple, entrepreneurs, educators, civic activists, mother and father, and warriors in God's army at the United House of Prayer for All People.
E. Ernestine Thompson finally retired from Mary Immaculate Hospital in 1983 but never from God's army, remaining a faithful and active member of the United House of Prayer for All People until her passing.
She is survived by her son; Ernest Thompson, daughters; Edriene Johnson-Butcher(Claude) and Linda Howell, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. ,
Viewing will be held Saturday June 13, 2020, from 10:00-12:00noon, followed by a life celebration and homegoing service.
