Mrs. Thelma Marvene Ponds entered eternal rest Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Viewing will be held 10-12:00 Noon Monday, September 21, 2020 at Pooles Funeral Home 8721 Colonial Trail East Smithfield, Virginia. A graveside service will be held 12:30 P.M. following the viewing at First Geavel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery 5230 Old Stage Hwy. Smithfield, Va.
Thelma Marvene Ponds, 73, returned to her heavenly home on September 16, 2020 after a valiant battle with a short illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Thelma was born to the late William Isaac Johnson and Emily Allen Johnson. She was a retired baker and deli clerk. She graduated from WestSide High School and attended Hampton Institute. She was a faithful member and church mother of The Vineyard Church in
Hampton, Virginia.
Thelma was blessed with a large and loving family. Thelma was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her
savior and healer.
Thelma is survived by her sons Mark (Maggie) Ponds, Henry (Crystal) Ponds; her daughter Stacie Ponds; her grandchildren Danielle, Chris, Dashay, Bryonna, Corniesha, Tianna, Ebony, Chaiquan, Edward, D’Nasia, Jeremiah, Ricardo Jr., and Lamaja; her brothers Glenn
Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Elmore Johnson; and sister Emma McNair.
She is preceded in death by her parents William Isaac Sr. and Emily Allen Johnson, her brother William “Bubba” Johnson Jr., and her sister Mildred White.
